Testimonials

The day-to-day positive impact the Jeffrey Foundation has on me is peace of mind. My daughter is in a safe environment where she feels comfortable and happy. The daycare is well run and organized and her therapists come on-site to see her. She has Downs Syndrome and is developing in ways I didn’t think would happen. I am grateful to have my daughter here at Jeffrey Foundation.

Our son was born on August 6, 2006 at 12:47am at 25.6 weeks gestation and weighing in at 895 g (1 lb. 15 oz.). He's our miracle baby. After spending 107 days in the hospital and battling Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a PDA of the heart, an Intraventricular Hemorrhage (IVH) stage 2 in his brain, Chronic Lung Disease (CLD), Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), and a liver dysfunction that no one could diagnose, he’s a perfectly healthy 28 month old child. He’s accomplished so much due to our prayers and faith but also due to the hard work, love, and attention that he receives from the staff at The Jeffrey Foundation. Ms. Morris and her staff cannot even imagine how they have impacted the lives of our family. I first met Ms. Morris (although she doesn’t recall) about 4 years ago while doing a summer practicum. I along with other students visited The Jeffrey Foundation. It was this experience that helped to shape me as an Education Specialist. I knew what kind of teacher I would be after spending my time at The Jeffrey Foundation, but I never imagined that one day I would utilize the wonderful services that are offered there. When our son was born, there was a lot of planning that had to be done but one thing was for certain – when he became old enough, he would be attending The Jeffrey Foundation. In March of 2008 our son entered the toddler program and my husband and I could not be more pleased. We would like to thank Alyce Morris for exposing me to special education programs that really work; the teachers for all that they do to make sure that our son receives everything that he needs to progress; and the wonderful staff that puts up with me and my husband and offers their smiles, hugs, and patience.

My eleven-year old son is diagnosed with autism. His special needs include sensory and communication difficulties that cause extreme behavior challenges. The Jeffrey Foundation has supported my family since 2006. He attends after-school and holiday/vacation programs. Clothes, toys, food and gift cards made available by donors kept my family afloat during our time of homelessness. The recent parenting class has not only provided support but has availed play group for my children while we meet-childcare is always available. Routine and familiarity greatly assist in grounding or at least giving him a sense of being less lost. Their after school program allows my son to experience what he prefers and helps him feel confident that besides his family, the Jeffrey Foundation family appreciates his uniqueness. The teachers rely on my child’s IEP and hold parent phone/personal conferences regularly in a familiar surrounding. My family continues to embrace the challenges (our blessing of) of special needs. Yet we sparkle in the circle of love experienced through generosity. We appreciate in our heart donations made to the Jeffrey Foundation. Thank you, All.

When my daughter came to the Jeffrey Foundation she was having a lot of difficulty with her speech. She used to cry and was frustrated that I couldn’t understand her. After just three months of working with teachers in the LAUP program, I saw a big difference. Now, I’m not bewildered anymore. My daughter pronounces words more clearly and I can understand her better. I can meet her needs now because I know what she wants. So, she’s very chatty and happier.

I am thankful for the assistance I’ve received in socializing and educating my son who has autism. Now, at age 10, he has been enrolled in programs at the Jeffrey Foundation for seven years. He didn’t like to be around many people, and he would run out to the street. Now he’s more social. Through the Jeffrey Foundation’s programs, my son has received help with his schoolwork, alphabet, counting, and how to hold a pen properly so he can write. The Jeffrey Foundation teachers have also helped him to develop healthy and sanitary habits, brush his teeth, and dress himself. This has been a big help to me.

I have two children in programs at the Jeffrey Foundation. As a working mother, I’m grateful that the Jeffrey Foundation can take good care of my children while I spend long hours at my job. I feel that when I’m at work they are well taken care of, as if they were with their grandmother or aunts. I equally value the social interaction skills my children are learning, and the parenting skills I’m building. My son (age 2) has made friends and is very happy at the Foundation. My daughter (age 4) has been a part of the Jeffrey Foundation’s programs since late 2002, and has learned a lot about good communication. They [Jeffrey Foundation staff] teach them how to work through the times when they’re upset rather than hit other kids. There is very good communication between teachers, children, and parents. The teachers have helped me with structure, with having routines for the children. I try to reinforce at home what they do here with eating, story time, songs and behavior.
